Calligram Project

          My calligram project is an image of a clock. I decided to make my letter to my future self into a clock to symbolize the time that would have gone by. The letter is written to myself in 20 years, which is a long time from now. Although it probably won't feel that long once i'm there. Time is just a concept which is why I wanted to make my image a clock. When i look back on my life I will not be thinking about all the time that has gone by, I will think of all the memories I have made.
          For this project I used the pen tool to make the numbers, such as 2, 4, and 7. I used the curvature tool to make the curves in the numbers like 6, 5, and 2. I used the shape tools, such as the ellipse and rectangle tools, to make the clock outline and the number 1. I also used the vertical type tool for some of the 1s. I used the type on path tool for numbers such as the 9 and 2s. I used the distort envelope tool for the numbers 1,4, and 0. I made the handle to the clock with the pen tool.

My letter;

Hello Kylie,

          Today is Sunday, October 4, 2020. I am writing this letter to myself, 20 years from now, so it’s 2040. Hopefully there isn’t still Coronavirus. I am currently a freshman in college at the University of Tampa. My current major is Public relations and Advertising. I would hope that by 2040 I have a stable job, so, do you like your job? As of now I plan on working in advertising. Are you working in advertising? Right now, my friends and family would describe me as extraverted, funny, and reliable. I am a big mac and cheese lover. I have been pretty happy for the most part. Are you still happy? Are you still friends with Talia, Melissa, Denyella, Claire, and Christina? I hope you and Kellie are still super close, give her a call. You probably still remember 2020, what a crazy year it’s been. I hope you are still just as strong as you have been this year. I also hope you don’t still take all the little things in your life for granted. Are you married? Kids? I doubt you are still with my current boyfriend. As of now I do not want kids, but i’m sure u have some. Do you have a dog? I absolutely love dogs.  Regardless of the path you have taken, I hope you have found happiness and peace. Although you’re almost 40 now, you were once a young stressed college student. I hope you still make time for the people and things that you love to do. Call mom a lot, she has done so much for us. I hope you still enjoy fashion, makeup, and food. Where do you live? Right now I honestly have no idea where life will take me. Are you back in Boston? Are you still in Tampa? Are you somewhere else? I hope you are still brave enough to explore the whole world and have new experiences. I hope you travel a lot and see all that is out there. I hope you still take risks and live life like everyday is your last, don’t be afraid. Always

remember everything happens for a reason and if you don’t know how to answer these questions yet, you will figure it all out.

  1. This was really clever! I really like how you emphasized "All you have is time," as it's not only a good message but suits the shape you chose well. The numbers are very readable, which is not an easy feat. I also liked how you used different colors to add complexity to your image.
